This is the last of the cucumbers for this season
Autumn is here. The leaves on the trees in the forest around us are beginning to change color. It is hunting season in our neck of the woods. The garden is winding down for the year. Tonight’s temperature is a low of 3 Celsius. My cucumber plants are light yellow and brown. Hubby harvested these cucumbers as he pulled up the plants today. The plants are lying in the compost bin and I am going to make Salt brine pickles out of these tomorrow.

I harvested our second cucumber this evening – it was a bit bitter but my daughter loved it. And now the plant has finished there is space on my windowsill for the geranium from the patio.
I can’t even imagine how much space one cucumber plant would take up in your window sill. I know that you can make them climb upward to save space but every time that I have tried the vine breaks off in my hand. I need to figure how to do it correctly.
Two cucumbers from a plant that you started late is pretty good. You grew it in a window sill. I am impressed. Especially when one considers you hand pollinated them.

I’ve actually got three more cucumbers on the way (different plants), so yes I am very pleased. By the way, the plants grew straight upwards, so I didn’t have the problem you mention, thank goodness.
It might be that it depends on the kind of cucumbers that I am growing aren’t meant to climbe. I have strung hemp string for them to climb up on but it has not helped.
How tall are the plants?
Honey
Maybe about a metre tall. They might have been bigger if they had been outside!?
Yes, your plants might not have been meant to climb.
I know the long skinny cucumber plants grow quite tall. They must take up the whole window.
Honey
Not too bad actually – though there is more light coming through the window now one of them has gone 😉
I can believe that. You room must be much brighter now LOL.
