I am going to have to transplant the celery into the poly-tunnel. I then can move the bell pepper forward and give them more room to grow. The bell pepper plants are full of flowers. I hope the Celery will not be harmed by being transplanted this late in the season. Despite the water shortage, our garden is still thriving. I have harvested strawberries, broccoli, spinach and two kinds of lettuce already this season. We are so pleased.
We usually only water our veggie patch and flower beds with rain water from the roof gutters that pour into barrels. We have had no rain for weeks. We have been getting water from the pond with buckets. Our landlord said hey I have an extra pump that I am not using that you can use… Thursday morning he finally fixed it up for us. We were so relived.
We fixed hoses that way we can fill the barrels up and use our watering cans to water the veggie patch. This broke our dry spell it has rained untill this afternoon, when we worked in the garden. We haven’t had the pump on since we hooked it up and tested that every thing worked.
You can see by the pictures that some of my flower beds have done better than others. The rain has kick started all of garden and everything is growing again.
Hubby went out this morning with the dogs to check the veggie patch and found evidence that something had eaten the tops of the tater plants.
Then he notice that part of the electric fence was down. They left a thank you on the lawn.
I think we found possible suspects. All joking aside the cows and calves have been in the pasture for a week. We had one cheeky little calf that ducked under the fence. Luckily we were cooking and doing dishes in the kitchen at the time. I ran out and shooed the calf away. The second time he ducked under the fence and he knocked over our grill. The third time he brought two other calves in for reinforcements. I had watched out for them all week. I chased them off. I had stared the cheeky little booger down through the window. It has been calm since. The grass has been almost all eaten up and something came in and sampled the carrot tops and the potato plants tops. They were moved out into another pasture shortly after. I am grateful that the herd didn’t come for dinner. We were really lucky.

Fresh from UK’s The Telegraph news media is Roasted Cauliflower. I’m not a big cauliflower fan, but this looks and sound like a real winner.
It has a rather long list of ingredients that may not be found in many American kitchens.
