9 days of snow and counting
We have been hit by snow storm after snow storm and there seems to be no end in sight. My puppy, Coco, loves exploring this winter wonderland. She amuses us when we watch her disappear in the snow drifts and all her silly antics. Dixie is feeling the cold today. She is getting up there in years. She has been playing hard outside with Coco. I guess today it all caught up with her.
We had such an unusually warm summer last year. Water levels dropped so much that unfortunealy our well went dry. Our pump got all clogged up from the sediments at the bottom of the well. We had to pump water from the lake to compensate. We usually water our vegetable patch and flower beds with two big barrels that are filled by our rain gutters on the house. I use a watering can on our plants. We live in a Swedish rain forrest so there is no need to water our grass. We don’t even own a water sprinkler. I am hoping that between the rain and flooding earlier this fall and winter and now the snow that all this moisture will replenish all the water in lakes, streams and ground water level. I don’t ever remember the water levels being this low here.
I don’t know if most readers realize that Sweden is so far north that we have the Midnight Sun in summer and long dark nights in the winter. The winter snow reflects the night skies and sunlight even through cloud cover. It is important for us in many ways. It provides light during this dark time of year for us. This winter has felt unusually dark without the snow. I for one am happy to see it.
If you want to see pictures of a heavy snow then check out the ones below. These were taken back in Jan 2010 when we still lived in the city. In the 1st picture you can barely see a car under all the snow and the second is my hubby with the puppies in our yard under the balcony.
