Learning how to start a blogg

This is my first post on my first blog. I have a lot to learn so have some patience as I navigate this maze of learning. I find this very complicated but challenging. My husband and I moved to our little slice of heaven roughly 3 years ago. We had a goal to live close to nature with our two dogs. We found a sweet little red and white house surrounded by woods with our own swimming hole. We wanted to be as self-sufficient as possible, which is why we decided to grow a vegetable garden. I have never had a vegetable garden. Thankfully my husband had a veggie plot, but that was before we were together. Since we have been married 30 years, he had forgotten as much as he remembered on the subject. It was like we both were beginners. We researched in books and on the net. We will be showing pictures of how we progressed with the garden every year. This place and lifestyle  has been a dream of ours, since we first got married. We are now enjoying each others company and living our dream.

We often, over the years, have forage in the forest around us picking wild strawberries, raspberries, blue berries and mushrooms. Now we have vegetables and fruit to store. We froze what we hadn’t eaten over our first summer here. I decided that I would like to learn how to can or as some people say make preserves.  I started making pickles our first year just simple sandwich pickles. Since we didn’t die of botulism, I got braver and this year I expanded my selection. I made a variety of pickles and then also include pickle relish, pickled mixed vegetables and such. I also tried jams and jellies this year.
